Hello Everyone,
I have been facing this problem from a very long time. Can anyone help me solve this?
Problem: When I start the computer the tape drive is not recognized. In the computer management – storage – libraries there is a red “X” mark on the tape drive showing “The drive is not present in the library”.
When, I restart the computer the tape drive is easily identified / found with no “X” mark and can be used without any problem.
Additional information: I have HP DAT72 drive, Compaq Proliant Server running Windows 2003 standard and I use the built in Windows backup utility.
Can anyone out there please help get out of this? Thanks in advance!!!!
Larry

Hello Larry!
The tape device will be listed under Computer Management\Removable Storage\Libraries. I am sure you must have disabled the drive.
It’s very simple, Under Computer Management\Removable Storage\Libraries just right click and open properties and check the enable drive.
If you have not check marked it, then enable it and your drive will be identified.
All the best!!!!
