Please HELP!

I have two partitions in my hard drive. I needed to reinstall XP on my C:\ drive so I backed up everything on my D:\ drive. To my horror, both the partitions were reformatted.

So I need to get all files from my D drive. Is this possible?

Thanks for all opinions.

Hi Ethan,

Before giving you any sort of suggestions, I would like you to answer few questions,

  1. What was the file system before and after formatting the drive?
  2. Have you resized the drives? If yes, then what were the old and new sizes?
  3. After the data loss situation, have you tried to save any data on to the same location from where you lost your data?

Hi Aiyana,

Thanks for your response.

File system was the same before and after formatting the drive, NTFS. I have not resized the drives. The drive is having the same no. of partitions even after formatting, i.e., two partitions. In fact I have not used my drive, once I came to know that I have lost my data from D drive.

I really need my data back from D partition. Can I try downloading any software to my D drive in order to recover my data?

Thanks for providing me the required information, Ethan.

Since you have mentioned, that the file system is NTFS, try using any NTFS Data Recovery Software to recover your lost data. All most all Data Recovery Software’s are available with Demo Version. Try with the demo version first before purchasing the software. Once you get confirmed that, the software has recovered your lost data then only go for full version.

Don’t ever make a mistake of installing the software on to the same partition having lost data on it. Doing so will result in permanent data loss, as it would overwrite the data. Once the data gets overwritten, it becomes highly impossible by any data recovery software to recover the lost data.

Thank you, Aiyana.

I was successful in recovering my data, Cheers!!!

I searched in Google and finally ended up using Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery Software, from which I was able to retrieve my data. In future, if you come across such situations, I’ll request you to suggest the same software for others. It successfully recovered all my data; it’s really a great product.
