I have a VHS of a family member that is no longer with us, this tape has been accidentlly recorded over and we are looking for a way to rescue the lost / covered up footage.

Any assistance / Ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks, Nathan

Well, That depends. People will say it is impossable. That depends on many factors. How many times it was taped over etc. You could get a professional service which gets the raw head voltages so it can recover the covered up pieces. But it could be a very expensive process.
The NSA/FBI could or maybe a recovery service.

PM me if you need more info

Hi,
You definitely need to break the record tab off the cassettes like mstone321 says and consider transferring what you've got to DVD while you can. VHS tapes won't last forever and the longer you wait, the more likely they are to humiliate or have other accidents happen to them.
