Hello,

I am thinking to install a hardware RAID on my brother computer but have few questions about RAID. I hope you guys could help.

1. Does the RAID automatically copy the data or only just the new stuff?

2. If one drives fails does the other drive run on operating system normally?

3. Could I set up RAID 1 with 3 drives?

Please help me its urgent.

Hi Jennifer,

I must say you have made a pretty fair decision of installing a hardware RAID. In hardware RAID the hardware components control the RAID, so you get a much better read and write speed and also more fault tolerate.

RAID 1 creates exact copy of a set of data on two or more disks, so in case of one drive failure the other drive can run normally on operating system. You can RAID 1 with 3 drives or even more as per your data capacity. Hope this helps…..! Good Luck….!
