I wanted to reinstall OS. So, I booted into DOS and proceeded to format my C drive. After that I went on to reinstall my windows. Later I found that it was my D drive that got formatted and was in fact installing windows in my D drive. So, now the situation is like this. My C drive is intact and contains the original version of windows, but it cannot be seen in dos mode. My D drive, which contained my documents and data files, have been formatted and some windows files written on it.

Question is: Can I recover the files originally in my D drive that had been formatted away. Some windows files had already been written into this drive now, so un-format wouldn't work.

Hi ebony,

You can recover the data provided they weren’t overwritten. Do not write anything to the partition. It is even better if you don’t access the drive itself. Data Recovery Software can help you recover your data. The demo version of the software will show you the data that is recoverable.
