Hi,

I have a NAS box that uses 4 IDE hard drives. It was working all fine, from past couple of days the device is giving an error which resulted in failure of drives 1 and 3.

The NAS device which I am using is a Yellow Machine P400T but the manufacturer is now out of business. The 4 hard drives are in RAID 5 configuration. The drive sizes are 250GB each and there is only about 200 GB or less of data total.

Please help in recovering my data.

Hi Calvin,

Basically, RAID Level 5 is defined as block wise striping with parity. Unlike RAID 4, the parity data is not always written to the same disk drive. There is no dedicated parity drive in RAID 5.

Because of which it is difficult to rebuild in the event of a single disk failure and in your case two disks have been failed, so you won’t be able to recover your data by just rebuilding the drives.

The best way to deal with RAID array failure is “Leave it Like that only” and call professional Data Recovery Company who are experienced in RAID Recovery especially RAID 5 as it has the most complex controller design.

Hope this information helps!
