The "Drive not formatted. Do you want to format now?" error message can occur for many different reasons including a computer virus, power surge, software installation or software that partitions the hard drive.

1) Do NOT say "yes" to format the drive. 2) Do NOT attempt to repartition the hard drive;

A data recovery software can recover data from a system displaying this error message.

Hi Aliza,

You can try FAT or NTFS Data Recovery Software depending on the file system on your partitions. I suggest you to run the demo and see the chances of recovery. Free demos usually only show you the files names that can be recovered, but you need to act quickly...the more you use the computer the greater the chances are the files will be overwritten and lost for good. If you can, stop using the computer now, unplug it, and connect the drive to another computer to perform the recovery from.

All the best!

Aiyana.
