Hello,

I have a problem. My system is installed with windows 2000 with two arrays. Array A with two disks, array B with 3 disks. Array A contain the system. Array B contain the data. I want to upgrade the Array B with new 145GB disk but currently I am using 36GB disks. How should I improve this?

Thanks.

Hi Aliza,

You have not mentioned the RAID level you have configured. Since you have 3 disks I assume it as RAID5. Whenever you add a new disk to an existing array, it only accesses the amount of space in the existing disks. Thus, your 145GB new disk will act same as a 36GB disk, and you won’t gain additional space for your investment. If you can afford 3 disks at 145GB, then your array capacity will considerably become higher. For that you must first backup your data, configure the new array and then restore the data to the new array.

Good Luck….!
