Hi,

I have a 500GB External Hard Drive. I had some problem accessing the drive, so took my drive to the local repair shop and they told that my drive has too many bad sectors and now it won’t let me see the drive. The drive is recognized by BIOS, and I can see it through Disk Management but it won’t let me see nothing else.

I have all my Business related documents on my drive.  Please advice me as how to get me data back!

Need not worry, Keley! Your Business related documents can be retrieved out off the drive. Here are few instructions to be followed,

First thing is to stop using the disk. As continuous read attempts increases the number of bad sectors on the drive and results in permanent data loss. So, it is recommended to clone or create disk image of the drive having bad sectors and then process the cloned drive or image file created for recovery, which helps in ignoring the bad sectors and avoids continuous read attempts directly on the disk in real-time situation.

Cloning or creating an image file of the drive having bad sectors, not only increases the speed of the scanning process but also successful data recovery.

If you have a spare Hard Drive, you can use cloning tools which are available easily over internet, try with Google keyword “Free Disk Cloning Software”, or if there is ample space on the drive then create an image file using tools such as Norton Ghost, Acronis, R-Drive image etc.,. And then you can access the image file or cloned drive as a healthy drive for data recovery.

Hope this helps resolving your problem.
