I had a drive crash. I can see it in the device manager
but when I try to populate it under Properties, I get the
message Volume Information can not be found.

I presume that with this type of crash data can be
recovered using software at reasonable costs compared to a
commercial recovery company. Yes? No?

Using recovery software is cost effective way to recover lost data from crashed drive. It is better to go through professional data recovery software Mac instead to opting commercial recovery company. Good thing about data recovery software is that you can see the preview of recoverable data in demo version of the software and you need to pay only if you found that software is capable to recover your lost data. Recovery software changes are lower than commercial recovery companies.
