Hi all,

I am a professional photographer. While I was working on completing the post-processing of images from a wedding shoot I did, my computer died. I don’t have any idea if it is the motherboard or anything else. Anyways the system is almost 3 years old and I have decided to purchase some new hardware like motherboard, memory etc… Now, the issue is I have two 250GB SATA hard drives set up in RAID 0 configuration. And one of my friends said that they won’t boot up on the new motherboard since it is a completely different BIOS. Is he right?

So, is there a way to recover the data from the existing drives, or have I lost it all?

Hi Nelson,

I would avoid using RAID0 in the future for this very reason. RAID 0 is NOT fault tolerant and should NEVER be used on a production machine, unless automated backup methods are in place. I personally think you are out of luck recovering your data. Sorry to say that...

Hi Nelson,

RAID 0 splits data evenly across two or more disks with no parity information for redundancy. If one of the drives it is hard to recover the data but not impossible. So don't panic! In most cases it is best to send the drives to a professional RAID Recovery.

Thank you all. This experience has changed my entire view on backups I used to think they were useless and unneeded its sad that it takes such a disastrous event like this to open my eyes. I will contact RAID recovery services. Hope I get back my data.
