I am thinking about getting myself a RAID setup in the near future but I don’t have much idea about RAID. Can anyone please tell me the advantages and disadvantages about RAID?

Hi Brooke,

RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. It is a method of combining several hard drives into one single unit. RAID offers fault tolerance, data integrity, increased storage capacity, speeds up data access and protects data from hard drive failure. RAID has various standard specifications (levels) like RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 3, 5 etc. each with theoretical advantages and disadvantages.
