Recovery Glossary > Winchester Disks
Winchester Disks is the name of an early IBM hard disk model which had
a storage capacity of 30 megabytes and 30 millisecond access time. The
inventors of this hard disk called it a Winchester because of its 30/30
caliber rifle. Winchester Disks have the same basic technology used in
modern disks, but have low data storage capacity and low accessing speed.
