Recovery Glossary > RLL
RLL is the acronym of Run Length Limited. RLL is an encoding technique
used to encode data into a hard disk or floppy disk. RLL is the most widely
used method of encoding than the earlier method MFM (Modified Frequency
Modulation). Despite being a complicated process RLL allows more data
to be stored on the drives.
RLL is a type of compression method which stores more than 50 percent
of data than MFM method. RLL reduces the amount of data-checking information
that is stored and hence reduces instability for a given amount of data.
