Data Recovery Glossary > RAM

RAM is the acronym of Random Access Memory. RAM is the storage space in computer's memory where operating system, application programs and data in current use is stored to facilitate quick access. RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and provides random access of data. Unlike ROM, RAM is a kind of read/write memory.

RAM is a temporary memory, which indicates that when the computer is turned off the data stored in RAM is lost. RAM is the fastest and the most expensive memory and is used to temporarily store information for processing. RAM's have been broadly categorized as:

  • Dynamic RAM
  • Static RAM.
