RAID 5 involves the combination of stripping technique with parity codes, and reducing the chances of data loss. RAID 5 offers excellent utilization of total disk space, fault tolerance and low cost of redundancy. Thus, RAID 5 is the most popular implementations of RAID. Generally, RAID 5 is implemented with hardware support for parity calculations and uses block-level striping across all member disks. RAID array is termed as Block Interleaved Distributed Parity.
