Physical damage caused to a hard drive can be either mechanical or electrical in nature. In simple terms, physical damage refers to the destruction or damage caused to a hardware component. A hard drive gets physically damaged due to excessive shock, dropped to the floor, broken, fallen into the water or fire etc.

Physical damage caused to a storage media can be repaired by replacing the damaged component or repairing the spare part. Storage media like hard disk drive and tapes are handled with extensive care in cleanrooms, where they are dealt with varied tools and equipments.
