Partitioning is the act of dividing a disk into small sectors, each sector
is treated as a separate file system. Partitioning is creating logical
division of a disk so that it can easily be accessed by multiple operating
systems. The primary purpose of partitioning is to split the large disk
into small areas which the File Allocation Table can easily access. Partitioning
goes synonymously with physical formatting.
Partitioning has various advantages:
- Supports multiple operating systems
- Effective utilization of disk space
