Recovery Glossary > IDE
IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics. IDE is a hard drive interface
used between computer's data paths and the storage devices. It is a method
for connecting the hard disk with the computer. IDE is integrated into
the motherboard of a computer and allows a connection of only 4 devices.
IDE supports a hard drive of 540 MB, but the latest version of IDE called
Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics supports a hard drive of 50 GB.
IDE is typical disk drive interface in which the controller electronics
reside on to the drive itself thus eliminating the need for separating
adapter card. IDE is standard for hard drives, CD drives, DVD drives and
other optical drives.
