Recovery Glossary > Head actuator
The binary data stored on the hard disk platters are read by the movement
of read/write head over the hard disk platters. Head actuator is the mechanism
that moves the read/write head on the surface of the platters. Head actuator
is responsible for the movement of read/write head over the appropriate
tracks.
For the read/write head to read the data from the platters must be placed
at the exact positions, the heads on mounted on a structure which facilitates
this process called the head actuator or head assembly. Head actuator
moves the head from one track to another to allow the access for the entire
surface of the hard disk.
