Recovery Glossary > Flying Height
The drive head glide over the disk surface and accesses all the data
even without physically touching the platters of the disk. This is possible
because they are magnetized. Flying height is the distance between the
read/write head and the disk surface or platters. Flying height is also
called as flying height and head gap. It is made of a cushion of air that
keeps the head from connecting the hard disk.
