Recovery Glossary > Embedded Servo
Embedded servo is the method of using the space between sectors of a
hard drive to provide servo-positioning information. Developed in 1970s,
embedded servo technique is used for track position information is prerecorded
between data areas in a track so that a data head, and proper additional
circuitry, can determine the data head location with respect to the center
position of the track in question.
Embedded servo also called wedge servo is a type of servo configuration
used on hard disks. Embedded servo makes more space available for data
on the drive.
