Clean Room is an environmentally controlled area for repair facility in which hard drives are opened for internal servicing or repair. The clean rooms have a controlled level of contamination that is specified by the number of particles.

The air in the room is regulated in terms of air particles, temperature and humidity. The clean rooms are rated by class like class 100 clean room, class 1000 clean room etc. A class 100 clean room means that there exist not more than 100 dust particles. A clean room has to be dust free and bacteria free to avoid any further damage to the hard drives during servicing.
