Recovery Glossary >Buffer
Buffer is a temporary storage space for data to be redirected. It is
a section of RAM reserved for temporary storage of data waiting to be
directed to a device. The purpose of buffer is to hold data right before
it is used.
Buffer is the region of memory reserved for use as an intermediate storage
area in which data is temporarily held while waiting to be transferred
between two locations, as between an application's data area and an input/output
device. A buffer is also used to assist communication between two devices
with very different processing speed like two modems or the CPU and printer.
