Recovery Glossary >Buffer Under-Run
Buffer Under-Run is the most common problem faced in CD-recording. The
CD-recorder has a buffer that is constantly filled with the data in the
event of a system slowdown of interruption. If the interruptions are very
long and the recorder's buffer is completely emptied then the buffer under-run
occurs.
When buffer under-run occurs, CD writing halts and most often the recordable
CD is permanently damaged. Thus, in simple terms Buffer Under-Run is the
state in which the data fed to the buffer is at lower speed than the data
actually read from it.
