ATAPI or Advanced Technology Attachment Packet Interface is a control
technology for devices like tape drives, zip drives and CD-ROM. ATAPI
is part of the enhanced IDE interface and is also known as ATA-2. ATAPI
is an extension of ATA protocol and defines the packet protocol for some
storage media.
ATAPI defines a set of commands supported through the ATA-2 interface
for peripherals other than hard drives, such as CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and tape
drives.
