ATA stands for Advanced Technology Attachment. ATA is the interface used
for connecting the storage devices like hard drives and CD-ROM drives
inside personal computer. It integrates the controller on the disk drive
itself.
There are multiple levels of ATA standards including the base-level 16-bit
IDE, ATA-2 (Enhanced IDE) and Ultra ATA. ATA is often used as a synonym
for IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics).
