Hi All,

I have a PII with 80GB Hard Disk with Win 2000. I recently purchased another HD of 40GB and installed Win XP to the master drive as I am using my old drive in it as a slave.

Now, after installing XP my old drive is not working and cannot read the data. I really don't know what went wrong and where. I had very important data in my 80GB old Hard disk. Help me PLEASE..!!!!

Hello Nelson,

Is your system booting normally?

Are you sure you have installed XP to your new drive? Please check it out.

Do the drives (both old and new) show up in BIOS and in Device Manager?

Salvager.

Yes, my system is booting normally. I checked in the Device Manager and only 1 drive is shown and it is the 40GB drive(master drive), with os as XP. I am really surprised, the 80GB drive is also connected but not shown in the Device Manager.

why is it so?

Check the jumper settings. You must have done a mistake while installing the second drive.

Check these links for assistance:

Hope this works out for you!

Absolutely right Salvager. The cause of the problem was the jumper settings. The Links helped me alot. Both my drive are detected now, and I can access my data.

Thanks for all your help and guidance.

Cheers
