When I open a file, the data cannot be read, what do I do?

The content of the file cannot be read when it is opened it may be damaged by a virus, power fluctuations, human errors or the file may be overwritten. Once this happens the data present in the file may be lost so the computer must be stopped using and proper recovery methods must be used to recover the data present in the file.
