What is RAID array and RAID controller?
RAID uses a system of multiple hard drives for replicating the data among
various drives. The series of hard drives used to share the data is called
RAID array. Choosing the RAID array or the number of hard drives depends
on the RAID volume. In other words RAID array is combining the multiple
drives with a technology to increase data reliability, capacity and speed.
All the physical unites of the RAID system, including the RAID array
is managed by a device called the RAID controller. RAID controller is
typically referred as Host Bus Adapter (HBA) and uses IDE, SCSI SATA or
SAS protocols to communicate with the physical disks in the RAID system.
