I reinstalled Windows and lost files in "My Documents" are they recoverable?

Reinstallation of windows results in reinitialization of “My Documents”. All the files and folders present in the “My Documents” will be deleted; the deleted files can be recovered only if he files have not been over written. Recoverability chances are more for files that are small, less fragmented and are present on large disk.

When the files are overwritten the space of the old file are being used by the new files to store data. Usually a file is not immediately overwritten when deleted, it is overwritten when the space is reused by windows to store new data, if the files once overwritten is not recoverable.
